Festival Bowland events in the Forest of Bowland run throughout the summer months with loads of walks and wildlife watching days out. Choose the event for you, you'll be spoilt for choice.
June
Hepworth Feast and Plague Commemoration on 24th June 2013 marks the end of the plague in 1665 in this small Yorkshire village near Holmfirth with a walk, band and market stalls
July
Oxenhope Straw Race is an annual charity fundraising event taking place on 7th July 2013 at Oxenhope near Haworth - teams of two people run two and a half miles between two pubs carrying a bale of straw, cheered on by spectators. They have to stop at set points along the way to drink a pint of beer . . . . .
Pontefract Liquorice Festival on 14th July - as well as the expected edibles and drinks made from the roots, there are street entertainers, activities for children, history talks and stalls.
Rochdale Canal Festival 2013 celebrating the South Pennine Canal Ring. From 27th July to 4th August there is a week of canal events and there are other events happening between April and December 2013.
August
Hebden Bridge Vintage Car Weekend 3rd and 4th August 2013. A fun day out for all the family with lots for everyone to enjoy. As well as a fabulous display of vintage, veteran and classic cars, motorcycles, commercials, kit & replica cars..... and lots more, there are craft, auto jumble and produce stalls, a wide range of on site catering, entertainment for children and live music from a jazz band. The Show attracts up to 600 vehicles, covering the history of British motoring.
The Nook Brewhouse Beer Festival 23rd to 25th August 2013 in Holmfirth showcases some of the area's finest ales produced in the summer wine countryside!
Saddleworth Rushcart Procession 24th and 25th August 2013 takes place in the Saddleworth villages and ends at St Chad's Church, Uppermill on Bank Holiday Sunday.
World Gravy Wrestling Championship on 26th August 2013 takes place in Stacksteads in Lancashire and involves wrestling in a sixteen foot pool of gravy - what not to like!
Norland Scarecrow Festival 31st August to 3rd September 2013. Discover unexpected artworks in gardens and fields around Norland in Calderdale

Pendle Walking Festival 1st to 8th September 2013 in East Lancashire takes in some fantastic scenery on guided walks
Sowerby Bridge Rushbearing Festival on 7th and 8th September 2013 is a curious local tradition which results in huge blisters and the need for beer
World Black Pudding Throwing Championship on 8th September 2013 in Ramsbottom, Lancashire. Puddings for consumption can also be purchased.
Heritage Open Days 12th to 15th September 2013 : a chance to visit unusual sites and buildings not usually open to the public
Brighouse Arts Festival on 16th to 21st September 2013 for visual arts, dance, drama and music set in the market town of Brighouse.
