Welcome to the event listings for the 2018 South Pennine Walk and Ride Festival. As we have so many events in 2018 we've introduced a new feature - you can now search the listings by activity, or by Local Authority area, using the filters on the right of the page. Then click on the event of your choice to get full details about start times and locations.

Walk

08th September - Castleshaw Roman Forts

Start Time: 14:00
A guided tour of the site and setting of two Roman forts on Chester to York military road including 2014-2017 excavation results. No wheelchair access, rough ground and no toilets. Meet at the public car park on Waterworks road next to Castleshaw Outdoor Centre OL3 5LZ. Take the A62 from Delph cross roads towards Huddersfield (approx 1 mile)turn second left after cricket fields.One moderate climb.

09th September - Nordic Walk & Talk - Australian Family’s 7-year Experience in State of Qatar

Start Time: 11:00
Unusual and interesting chance to learn about the Middle East. Expected time 40 minutes. Children, families/adults welcome. Then borrow our Nordic Walking poles for sociable walk, suitable for beginners, with expert qualified Nordic Walking instructors Jean and John.

09th September - A Stroll Around Stacksteads

Start Time: 14:00
A dog friendly and family walk. View sculptures, parks and gardens around Stacksteads, including the Greenway, Rosemount and the path of history.

Cycle

11th September - Saddleworth Circuits

Start Time: 10:00
A gentle, mainly off-road exploration of the Saddleworth countryside with members of the Rough Stuff Fellowship Off-Road Cycling Club. Suitable for beginners. If riding with us all day lunch will be back at the Lime Kiln cafe. Expect to be back from the afternoon ride around 16:00. Two 12 mile rides morning ride meet from 10:00 for 10:30 start, afternoon meet 13:00 for 13:30 start or do both (24 miles).

Walk

12th September - Littleborough Walk

Start Time: 10:30
This walk crosses one of the quietest stretches of Littleborough’s moorlands. Parts of the walk are wet and rough underfoot.
The Bigger Boat
