Welcome to the event listings for the 2017 South Pennine Walk and Ride Festival. As we have so many events in 2017 we've introduced a new feature - you can now search the listings by activity, or by Local Authority area, using the filters on the right of the page. Then click on the event of your choice to get full details about start times and locations.

Updates

Due to the pocket guide going to print in July sometimes events have to change for the actual festival due to circumstances beyond our control. Please check the Walk and Ride Festival website for up to date advice.

EVENT 72: Mary Towneley Loop Endurance-Unfortunately this year’s event has had to be cancelled due to the low number of entries received so far. Refunds for the current entrants will be processed ASAP.  Any questions please email: events@rpmrt.org.uk 



EVENT 114: In the Footsteps of Outlaws and Legionaries-incorrect postcode in pocket guide. Event will meet at Ogden Reservoir, Ogden Lane, Newhey, OL16 3TQ. We are trying to secure a walk leader to meet at Ogden Reservoir, Halifax as an alternative but have nothing sorted as yet.

Borrow a pair of our walking poles, come Nordic Walking and listen to Mike Nevell talking about the industrial archaeology of Crompton Moor. Paths are steep, rough and dog friendly. Free car park.

Walk to local landmark Pots and Pans. Enjoy a historical journey through Saddleworths unique past as you walk. Bridleway and path, some stiles. Suitable for experienced walkers. Bring Lunch.

A gentle, mainly off-road, exploration of the Saddleworth countryside with members of the Rough Stuff Fellowship Off-Road Cycling Club (www.rsf.org.uk). Suitable for beginners. Morning ride starts at 10.30am. Afternoon ride starts at 1.30pm. If riding with us all day lunch will be back at the Lime Kiln Cafe. Expect to be back from the afternoon ride around 4pm. A historic, high moorland walk with Rochdale Ramblers on packhorse trails, old turnpikes and moorland tracks (one being the Pennine Way). You will be rewarded with stunning, panoramic views on a clear day.

16th September - Cross Keys Road & Fell Relay

19th September - Exploring the beautiful Strinesdale Valley

Start Time: 10:15
A walk with Lees Health Walks up the River Medlock Valley to the wooded Strinesdale Valley and around the reservoir and return to Lees.

19th September - Run from the Museum

Start Time: 18:00
Run from the museum up into the hills of Saddleworth along bridleway, canal towpath and section of road. Suitable for experienced runners. Trail/fell trainers strongly advised.

20th September - Cycle from the Museum

Start Time: 10:30
Expect tough climbs and incredible views. For experienced road cyclists only. Must wear appropriate kit. In case of poor weather event will be cancelled.
Walk

20th September - Wednesday Walkers Oldham

Start Time: 10:30
A few slight inclines, country lanes and fields and a little road walking. Lunch in the park – no facilities. No children or dogs please. Email chair@wednesdaywalkers.org if you need any more information.

Follow in the footsteps of outlaws and Roman soldiers with Saddleworth and Oldham Discovery Walks exploring the secluded Peithorne Valley and Blackstone edge.
