Welcome to the event listings for the 2017 South Pennine Walk and Ride Festival. As we have so many events in 2017 we've introduced a new feature - you can now search the listings by activity, or by Local Authority area, using the filters on the right of the page. Then click on the event of your choice to get full details about start times and locations.

Updates

Due to the pocket guide going to print in July sometimes events have to change for the actual festival due to circumstances beyond our control. Please check the Walk and Ride Festival website for up to date advice.



EVENT 20: South Crosland Airfield Ride-cancelled due to lack of bookings.



EVENT 71: A Taste of Le Tour – deleted



EVENT 72: Mary Towneley Loop Endurance-Unfortunately this year’s event has had to be cancelled due to the low number of entries received so far. Refunds for the current entrants will be processed ASAP.  Any questions please email: events@rpmrt.org.uk 



EVENT 114: In the Footsteps of Outlaws and Legionaries-incorrect postcode in pocket guide. Event will meet at Ogden Reservoir, Ogden Lane, Newhey, OL16 3TQ. We are trying to secure a walk leader to meet at Ogden Reservoir, Halifax as an alternative but have nothing sorted as yet.

09th September - Get Dirty

Start Time: 09:00
If you are new to off-road biking this half-day course will build confidence and make you feel at home on easy man-made and natural trails.

Spectator Event

10th September - Towneley Heritage and Woodland Day

Start Time: 12:00
Dozens of activities for all the family showcasing woodlands and heritage : traditional woodland crafts, working horses, funfair, forest school, birds of prey display, archaeology, bands and Jacobite re-enactment.

Cycle

14th September - Easy Riders Ride

Start Time: 10:30
An easy, slow paced ride for people who don’t want to cycle on roads. There will be short gradients; a rest will be incorporated into the ride at the top of each hill. Starting at Thompson Park we will follow the scenic Brun Valley route, come and hear the birds sing, spot wildflowers along the beautiful route. Who knows, we may event see the heron on the river Brun. If raining the session will be cancelled. Book, limited places available Bring your own bike.

Walk

17th September - Scouting Above Cliviger

Start Time: 10:00
A moorland walk on paths and old packhorse routes on both sides on the Cliviger Gorge with Pendle and South Pennine Area Walkers. Two steep ascents on the Burnley Way. Optional pub stop half way round. Come well equipped and with refreshments.

19th September - The Quakers of Marsden

Start Time: 10:15
Visiting places associated with the Quakers - their homes, farms, school, burial grounds and then to HAPPA animal sanctuary cafe for lunch.

23rd September - Circles, Halls and Roman Forts

Start Time: 10:00
A walk back in time visiting ancient stone circles, Roman forts, old halls to hamlets and villages in the South Pennine moors with Pendle & South Pennine Area walkers.

24th September - The Shedden Hushings

Start Time: 13:00
Looking at the remains of the limestone quarrying industry long gone with Mick Chatham.
