Welcome to the event listings for the 2018 South Pennine Walk and Ride Festival. As we have so many events in 2018 we've introduced a new feature - you can now search the listings by activity, or by Local Authority area, using the filters on the right of the page. Then click on the event of your choice to get full details about start times and locations.

Updates


Due to the pocket guide going to print in July sometimes events have to change for the actual festival due to circumstances beyond our control. Please check the Walk and Ride Festival website for up to date advice.


- Event 69 Walking the West Pennine Way walk 4 of 6 in the pocket guide is to be held on Monday 17th September NOT on the Sunday.


- Extra events: August 23rd, 27th and 30th Walk and Ride Boost-boost your confidence in getting out into the South Pennines. Staups Lea Farm, Staups Lane, Blackshaw Head, Ol14 8RR. Contact amy@splattraining.co.uk

Spectator Event

09th September - Towneley Heritage & Woodland Day

Start Time: 12:00
Dozens of activities for all the family showcasing woodlands and heritage : traditional woodland crafts, working horses, funfair, forest school, birds of prey display, archaeology, bands and re-enactment.

10th September - Padiham to Porters Gate

Start Time: 10:00
Burnley Way to top of Hambledon Hill on an old packhorse route back down past Hapton Tower then down to Bentley Green and on to Padiham Greenway to finish.

11th September - The Burnley Way Round Briercliffe

Start Time: 10:00
Take a look at various interesting buildings in Haggate and Harle Syke with some historical snippets of interest. We will follow the Rivesr Don and Brun to Rowley Hall and lake for a refreshment stop. Walking by Swinden Water on the Burnley Way to Extwistle Hall and Monk Hall. A pop to Shores Hey Animal Sanctuary for a lunch stop. Taking in places associated with the Quakers of Pendle before back to the starting point to finish.

13th September - The Bronte Way to Gawthorpe

Start Time: 09:45
Bronte Way along the straight mile to Weavers Triangle, Ighten Manor and Gawthorpe Hall. Return via the Burnley Way an old ginny track, past wood carvings to the Marina Bistro.

18th September - Sir Jonas, Higham and the Sabden Valley

Start Time: 10:00
Looking at places associated with Sir Jonas Moore - the founder of Greenwich Meantime - and halls, farms and hamlets in the Sabden Valley.

23rd September - Hurstwood Circular

Start Time: 11:00
A scenic walk along a section of the Burnley Way and around reservoirs taking in history, the sci-fi-like landscape of Hushings and Sheddings, passing through the hamlet of Hurstwood where 16th Century poet Edmund Spencer once lived. Mostly well established paths with some slight inclines. No dogs or young children.
